Carl Gustav Jung (Kesswil, na Turgóvia, Suíça, 26 de julho de 1875 – Küsnacht, em Zurique, Suíça, 6 de junho de 1961) foi um psiquiatra e psicoterapeuta suíço, fundador da psicologia analítica. Com um legado influente nos campos da psiquiatria, psicologia, ciência da religião, literatura, criou alguns dos mais conhecidos conceitos psicológicos, incluindo a distinção entre personalidade extrovertida e introvertida, as ideias de arquétipo e de inconsciente coletivo, bem como a noção de sincronicidade. A classificação de personalidade MBTI foi postumamente desenvolvida a partir das suas teorias. Juntamente com Freud, foi um dos mais respeitados pensadores do seu tempo, sendo hoje amplamente conotado como um dos mais influentes psicólogos de sempre. Via a psique humana como 'de natureza simbólica' e fez desse simbolismo o foco das suas explorações. Ele é um dos maiores estudiosos contemporâneos de análise de sonhos e simbolização. Embora exercesse a sua profissão como médico e se considerasse um cientista pautado no método empírico naturalista, muito do trabalho da sua vida foi dedicado a explorar e aplicar também noções típicas das ciências humanas, tais como a antropologia, sociologia, mitologia e as religiões comparadas, além de áreas tangenciais à ciência, incluindo a filosofia oriental e ocidental, alquimia e astrologia, bem como a literatura e as artes. O seu interesse pela filosofia e ocultismo levaram muitos a vê-lo como um místico. Foi também, durante 50 anos de 1905-1955, sócio da marca de relógios IWC Schaffhausen, herdada pela mulher Emma. Carl Gustav Jung (Kesswil, Thurgau, Switzerland, 26 July 1875 - Küsnacht, Zurich, Switzerland, 6 June 1961) was a Swiss psychiatrist and psychotherapist, founder of analytical psychology. With an influential legacy in the fields of psychiatry, psychology, religious science and literature, he created some of the best-known psychological concepts, including the distinction between extroverted and introverted personality, the ideas of archetype and the collective unconscious, as well as the notion of synchronicity. The MBTI personality classification was posthumously developed from his theories. Along with Freud, he was one of the most respected thinkers of his time and is now widely recognised as one of the most influential psychologists of all time. He saw the human psyche as 'symbolic in nature' and made this symbolism the focus of his explorations. He is one of the greatest contemporary scholars of dream analysis and symbolisation. Although he practised as a doctor and considered himself a scientist based on the naturalistic empirical method, much of his life"s work was dedicated to exploring and applying notions typical of the human sciences, such as anthropology, sociology, mythology and comparative religions, as well as areas tangential to science, including Eastern and Western philosophy, alchemy and astrology, as well as literature and the arts. His interest in philosophy and the occult led many to see him as a mystic. He was also, for 50 years from 1905-1955, a partner in the watch brand IWC Schaffhausen, which was inherited by his wife Emma. In 1961 he published Memories, Dreams, Reflections, a work that is a kind of autobiographical text about his long career.
